Malagasy Exporters join SVI as Associate Members (March 2024)

Over twenty local Malagasy exporters were invited to join SVI as Associate Members.

This opens a new chapter for SVI with a stronger voice informed by those at the frontlines of the vanilla supply chain. As part of this invitation, SVI organised a two-day exchange on March 21/22 in Antalaha which aimed to onboard local exporters on SVI’s mission and to start to identify immediate and long-term priorities to collaborate on.

The main outcomes included:

  1. A common understanding of SVI vision, ways of working and what we can do together.
  2. Consensus on priority investments to improve the formalisation and governance of the vanilla sector in Madagascar
  3. Immediate advocacy priorities which were communicated to the government including:
    • The importance of creating more regular exchanges between government, importers and exporters
    • The need for early clarity on rules, opening dates and licenses to make the new vanilla campaign a success
